Owls Head Ranch opened in 2001 and is owned and operated by Don and Nancy Nelson. Cattle raised here enjoy fresh pasture on a daily basis and hay as needed in the winter, supported only by balanced nutrition and routine herd health care. | WELCOME TO OWLS HEAD RANCH
Owls Head Ranch is located in southern Wisconsin and is owned and operated by Don and Nancy Nelson. The ranch was established in 2001, with the purchase of 98 acres. The next year was spent reconditioning this once run down piece of land and researching varying breeds of cattle. Due to the hilly and wooded terrain on our property we decided to stock Owls Head Ranch with Scottish Highland Cattle. In the summer of 2002 the ranch welcomed the first of its herd, 5 cows, 2 calves, and a bull. Once a run down and unattractive piece of property, Owls Head Ranch has grown and matured into a beautiful piece of property. In 2003 a neighboring farm was acquired, expanding Owls Head Ranch by another 150 acres. In 2005 (after 2 years of crop farming), we decided to start fencing and planting different grasses and legumes, and in 2006, 80 head of Highland stocker cattle (owned by another producer in Wisconsin) grazed this land during the growing season. Presently Owls Head Ranch is home to over 130 head of cattle and continues to grow.
What started out as a grueling and tedious task of clean-up and land restoration, Owls Head Ranch has transformed into a beautiful and captivating farm that we are very proud of. We hope you enjoy this glimpse of Owls Head Ranch, and would be very happy to provide additional information. We enjoy showing off our cattle and visitors are always welcome. A special thanks to all of our family, friends, and neighbors who donated their time and energy to help us make our dream a reality. |
